Android with no Soft Keyboard?
Then you’re probably on Rogers. For some strange reason the HTC Dream doesn’t have the soft keyboard… even though it’s a 1.5 release of Android.
Strange right? Yup.
Problem? No.
Here is how to get the Virtual Keyboard on your Rogers HTC Dream:
UPDATE: Many people have commented around the web that it’s easier to just come here on your phone and download it directly. Doing it this way allows you to skip a few steps.
Make sure you allow untrusted sources for appĀ installationsĀ (Settings > Applications) then point your phone here: http://tinyurl.com/htc-ime
Download and Install!
- Download “Apps Installer” from the Marketplace. A simple search will do. (it may have a stange looking name. that’s the right one)
- Next download the apk file from here.
- Put the apk package on your phone via the USB cable.
- Install the apk with Apps Installer
- Unmount your SD card.
- Load up Apps Installer
- After finding HTC_IME.apk , long press and choose install.
- After installing reboot your Android phone. This step is mostly for safty purposes.
- Go to Settings > Locale & Text and you should see Touch Input. Check it.
- You may now change the setting and use the virtual keyboard.
- Enjoy.
If you want to uninstall the app follow these steps:
- Go to: Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
- Find Touch Input, click it.
- Un install it.
- Remove the apk file from the SD drive.
Incase anyone is wondering…. This is the apk file I am using for my rogers phone. And it works wonderfully.
